About the practice

A small practice, on purpose.

Kestrel is one advisor and a bench of specialists. It has been that shape since 2016 and the plan is for it to stay that shape.

Rowan Halliday, founder of Kestrel Advisory
“Most coaching sells motivation. Operators do not need motivation. They need clear thinking and an outside view that holds when it is inconvenient.”

Rowan Halliday — Founder Manchester & London Practising since 2016

Twelve years operating businesses before advising them — two of them owned, one of them sold, and one that did not work and taught considerably more than the other two. Eight years advising founders past their first million.

How the practice works

Four things that have not changed.

  1. 01

    Twelve clients a quarter

The cap is what makes same-day answers possible. It has not moved in four years and raising it would quietly change what you are buying.

  2. 02

    Published fees

Every number is on the programmes page. A call spent working out whether you can afford it is a call neither of us wanted.

  3. 03

    No cohorts, ever

The moment this becomes a group programme it becomes a curriculum, and a curriculum cannot be built around your particular constraint.

  4. 04

    A straight no

Roughly a third of applications get one, with the reason attached. A wrong-fit engagement costs you six months and costs us a reference.

Specialist network

The bench, and when it gets used.

Brought into a session when the question needs a specialist rather than a generalist with an opinion. No extra fee on any programme.
